Art School Ilkley was established in September 2016 and now offers a variety of art classes from a specially designed studio space situated in the Manor House Courtyard.

It is run by Sarah and John Gamble. Sarah has had a long career working as an art specialist secondary school teacher and has a personal practice that centres on textile, print and stitch. John completed his MA in Creative Practice from Leeds Arts University and works mainly with drawing and, more recently paint. They both regularly exhibit work and have completed residencies in Bradford, Kinvara and Warsaw.

Art School Ilkley holds regular tutored after school art workshops and evening adult creative courses, in addition there are regular weekend ‘Day of’ courses which explore drawing through stitch, print making and life drawing. There will soon be a new range of full day courses as they look to collaborate with other creative practitioners to deliver workshops. They also provide specially themed creative children’s birthday parties in the studio.

Sarah and John relish working with students of all ages and of differing educational needs and backgrounds, and their personal practice is enhanced and extended by their work within Art School Ilkley. The classes focus on encouraging a free exploration of the creative process in a friendly, encouraging and inclusive space.

Both Sarah and John hold enhanced DBS checks, have pediatric First Aid Training and are members of AXIS Arts and Artists Network.

Following the relaxation of lockdown, classes are resuming.
