Chris is a Leeds based artist who started her formal training at Leeds College of Art gaining a distinction in Foundation Studies before going on to achieve a BA in Fine Art at Trent University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Art and Design from Reading University.
After a career in teaching, she began full time as an artist in 2017.
Chris enjoys working in portraiture and hopes that her portraits express an inner mood or emotion that the viewer can connect with.
Her methods are both traditional and contemporary. She loves to use her iPad as a sketchbook and as a means of collecting and working out ideas. When transferred to the canvas or printmaking she prefers the lusciousness and ease of working with oil based materials. Her style is economical so that only those things deemed essential are brought to the fore in the composition.
In 2019 Chris was a successful quarter finalist on Sky Television Portrait Artist of the Year. She is represented by BilsandRye Contemporary Gallery, Harrogate and also works by portrait commission.
