Gillian Gilroy

I use the technique of continuous line drawing.

I love to draw animals, the built environment and the human figure. I aspire to reduce my unbroken mark making to the absolute minimum – capturing my chosen subject with a few strokes of my pen.

I embrace the simplicity of line drawing and its ability to engage the viewer with its uninterrupted free flowing and multi layered contours. I have recently become interested in mono printing which works really well with a simple line drawing, with each piece having its origin in that first contact between pen and ink/paper – that contact isn’t lost until the drawing is complete. As a consequence each piece is unique.

I trained at Bradford College of art and design, concentrating on painting and printmaking. After having my children, my passion for art was reignited by joining a local life drawing group to rediscover my drawing and observation skills.

I have been involved with the Ilkley Arts Trail since it began and have loved being part of such an amazing group of creative people.
