Sarah Garforth

Sarah works from her Ramsgill studio in rural Upper Nidderdale.

She trained in graphic design at the University of Northumbria in the early 90’s and in her early career established herself as a painter. All her work has a common route in development, collecting sketches and photographs on long walks through the Yorkshire Dales and coast. Her paintings reflect her passion for the great outdoors and nature. Stylistically her work is representational with a hint of impressionism and show her love of colour and mark making, often painting on heavily gessoed boards.

In 2017 a grant funded project through Nidderdale Visual Arts gave her the opportunity to develop an aspect of her professional practice and saw Sarah’s work develop into various areas of print including screen print, drypoint and solar plate print. Her work is continuously changing and developing but always with an emphasis on drawing. At present she is particularly interested in expanding her captured moments into prints using multiple plates and techniques with a strong visual narrative.

Her work has been exhibited in Bowes Museum as a shortlisted artist in the New Light Prize.
