Gillian Gilroy

I have lived in Ilkley all my life and it is intrinsic to who I am as an artist.

My work is based around line, this can sometimes involve different mediums but is always based around those original marks. My work is led by feel and intuition. The image emerges from the page as I capture depth, perspective and character.

My relationship with my subject is paramount, whether it be people, places or objects. I embrace the imperfections of the techniques I use; they add life, meaning, and realism to my pictures, making them more personal, more individual and more intimate. I like to use different mediums - pen, paint, collage and I also love the simplicity and line of mono printing.

I went to Bradford College of Art and Design where I studied a degree in Painting and Printmaking. I have worked at The Terrace Gallery at Harewood House and also at The Henry Moore Institute. I have been part of Ilkley Arts since its start when I was a volunteer at the first Ilkley Arts Trail and have contributed my work to many subsequent exhibitions.

I have shown at Cartwright Hall, Bradford and at The Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield and I am part of The Solar Gallery at Ilkley Manor House and I also exhibit at The Ilkley Moor Vaults.
