An artist born and living in Yorkshire, the hills and dales of this lovely part of the world do occasionally appear in my work. I paint in oils and though I love to paint pretty much anything from 19th century inspired seascapes, an alla prima sketch of hills in Appletreewick to an explosion of colour in the form of an abstract; my first love is realism.
Influences are John Singer Sargent, Velasquez, Constable, Turner... basically there's a lot of artists I admire! I'm currently working on portraiture, especially painting from life. And while that's going on, I'm happy to paint commissions of portraits from photos, landscapes both real and imaginary as well as 12th scale miniatures for collectors.
I was awarded the Leeds Inspired Grant in 2015 which gave me the opportunity to have my first solo exhibition in Leeds while my miniature oil paintings have appeared in American Miniaturist Magazine in recent issues. Several are now in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures, Kansas, USA.
I feel the best is yet to come for my work both large and small....
