Andy James. B.A. (Hons), M.A. Andy is a contemporary artist based in Yorkshire. He works mainly in oil and mixed media and is interested in the visual language of colour, form, and line.

“Whilst the images I produce are abstract it is inevitable that they are influenced by my experiences of landscapes and places.”

After studying for a B.A. (Hons) in art at York St John University he moved to Hull where he became a member of the ‘Kingston Art Group’. During this time, he developed his own studio practice and completed his M.A. at the University of Humberside, specialising in large scale paintings, drawings, and mixed media compositions. This experience cemented his interest in semiotics and how the visual world affects the way we feel.

Feeling at his most creative when he is outside in the Yorkshire landscape he loves, he is often inspired by what he sees as he cycles mountain and road bikes – up hill and down dale. It is this passion and the search for a connection with a landscape and its seasons that he intends to communicate through his paintings and mixed media work.
